Google it. There are probably some non-site-sanctioned websites that will show you the basics for online poker. Most of them are free.

I am going to assume that you are going to play NL texas holdem (like the wsop main event). Thats where all the money and fun is.

Searching on yahoo or google is a great idea. Wikipedia has two good articles. Type “texas holdem” to learn the rules. “Type poker strategy” for some more advanced stuff. The “poker strategy” article will help you incredibly. Make sure you read every link and every single paragraph. Its ALL very important. Every single word is important. Okay you get the point

These 6 sources should be plenty of information for you. They all helped me alot and i hope it does you.
Once you clearly understand most of the concepts and want to continue, you need to buy some books. Of course, you might just give up (lets be honest poker is hard stuff).. so im not going to bother telling you the good books unless you know you want to learn more later in whcih case you could post another question.

If you have any questions about the links or conepts IN THE LINKs i posted, plz post it !

Good luck with the texas holdem thing!

PS: The two best poker sites are fulltiltpoker or pokerstars.

Visit the PokerPulse Roll & Shuffle (http://pokerpulse.com/news/viewforum.php?f=12)for a list of authoritative texts on gambling, including relevant excerpts: ;

the best Learn to Play guides, including links and even

some tried and tested advice to gamblers.

A caution, though: Be careful if you’re playing on the Internet. The U.S. Justice Dept. is quite serious about prosecuting remote gambling websites.

Gamblers in the U.S. need to worry about this because remote sites that are still accepting bets from U.S. residents are at risk of prosecution, which means frozen accounts and late or no payout. See the BetonSports and Neteller pprosecutions as well as news on PartyGaming in talks with DoJ to discuss PAST U.S. bets DoJ claims were illegal, and the Discovery/Paradise Poker settlement agreement to name just a few.

Gamblers OUTSIDE the U.S. need to worry about this because, again, if remote sites are still accepting bets from U.S. residents, there is the same risk of prosecution. If so, ALL accounts will likely be frozen – not just those of U.S. bettors.

There are many sites, just search Yahoo for online poker rooms. Pick a large well know site with a lot of players. Check for complaints using a Yahoo search before you join one. Visit the casinomeister website and check it out – see below. Check the poker room blacklist on my site – see below.

Be careful, many poker rooms are scams.

In any poker room you pick, play for FREE before you play for money of any kind. When you are consistently winning in every free game you play, then consider the next step. But go cautiously, the action is vastly different in the money games than in the free games.

Try to play in Freerolls exclusively until you have won some of the poker room’s money, then use that to play in cash games.
Play smart and you should never have to risk your own money.

Get some advice from my poker website – read the free strategy sections on the poker page.
